You will have to be quick to get your hands on tickets for this Valentine’s Day weekend performances of Nashville Ballet’s Attitude! This is one seriously cool idea that could only be born out of Nashville – combining live singer songwriter rounds with contemporary ballet. Nashville Ballet has teamed up with the infamous Bluebird Café for this one of a kind performance showcasing brilliant songwriters including Victoria Banks, J.T. Harding and Georgia Middleman. These A-grade songwriters have written hits for the likes of Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire and Sara Evans. Banks, Harding and Middleman will also be telling the stories behind their songs as part of the program. A touch of Mozart and Chopin will also be featured as part of the show.
“As songwriters, we’re always thinking about how we’re making people feel and how to use words and melodies in a way that will make people connect with our music,” Banks said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how the choreographers use their own interpretations of the songs to add an extra visual element to the performance to make people connect in an even deeper way.”
If the talent of the songwriters wasn’t amazing enough just take a look at the rest of the cast! The choreographers include Nashville Ballet’s Christopher Stuart, New Dialect’s Banning Bouldin, Brian Enos and Gina Patterson. Famed Czech/Dutch choreographer Jiří Kylián will also be lending his skills to the production.
City of Dreams has been coined the overarching theme of this creation borrowing from Banks’ song which was created by more than 40 artists to benefit Tennessee flood victims in 2010. Erika Wollam Nichols, the general manager of The Bluebird Cafe’ states:
“The overarching theme is City of Dreams, because Nashville is that… Nashville is the place where people come with dreams, even if you’re not a songwriter or musician. The energy of chasing your dreams is here.”
Back by popular demand, the performances will commence February 12-14, 2016 at TPAC’s Polk Theater. Attitude is presented by SunTrust. Tickets start at $28 and can be purchased in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at www.nashvilleballet.com.
