Larry g(EE) caught up with the Australian based group Jakubi for us at their recent Communion Presents show in Dallas to talk about the tour, new music, why they call Chicago their second home & hanging at the Sour Patch Kids House for a week!

GBS:
How’s the State side tour been going for you guys so far?
Jakubi:
It’s been good man! We’ve been here three times here in America. This trip has been good because we’ve touched a lot of places that we didn’t before. We had never really come south before so that’s been interesting. It’s been cool to go to places we’ve been to a few times like Chicago, New York. We are not going west except to do some recording out in LA.

GBS:
Recently you called Chicago your “second home”. What’s the big connection with that city for your band?
Jakubi:
The first time we came we travelled in an RV so we didn’t have a home. We linked up with these dude in a frat house and there were probably ten people in there. That was the first place we made friends that weren’t Australian and the last two times we’ve been we have always caught up with them. It kinda feels like home especially when you are travelling you don’t have that normal friendship group. We just hung out with them and we are staying in hotels now.

GBS:
Hanging out at Sour Patch Kids House in Brooklyn looked like good times! Who made off with the most bags of candy? Any favorite flavors?
Jakubi:
Adam for sure! Yeah I couldn’t stop I was happy. Watermelon! I was still eating them today on the way here.

GBS:
No doubt Communion loves them some Jakubi! Any stand out moments on the tour or working with Communion so far?
Jakubi:
It’s great having a representative at every show. Someone there to kinda take care of us and having someone to introduce bands before they play is cool as well because it gives a little backstory for people who don’t know us.

GBS:
You last played Melbourne back in March according to your schedule. Are you all headed back to Australia after your Austin show tomorrow?
Jakubi:
This is actually our last show before we are headed back.

GBS:
Can we expect any new music or releases from you guys soon? This is with other producers?
Jakubi:
I think hopefully, will still don’t have a date, really soon. The plan is just to have an EP out. I’m even over the old songs and I want new songs constantly. So we are going to have four new songs and they are sick! We are working in some of the craziest studios that we’ve actually seen now that we are with our label Epic. It’s crazy some of the artists that have come in and sort of mentored us and helped us grow.

GBS:
Last question, let’s make it a fun one! What’s better, Australian craft beer or U.S. craft beer?
Jakubi:
Australian beer is the beer!
